The short version

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya is a large resort, with 1,264 guestrooms and suites, a water park that comes with your stay, and a private white-sand beach in a natural sea cove. Families get a Kids Club for ages 4 to 12 and Vibe City, a zone just for kids and teens. Adults travelling without children can look at Heaven, the adults-only section with its own pool and restaurants. Cancun airport is about a 60-minute drive away.

Good to know

• Entry to the Rockaway Bay water park is included. It has nine slides for kids and teens, eight for young children and six high-speed slides with a 43-inch minimum height.
• Heaven is the adults-only section, with its own Eden pool, swim-up bar and cabanas, and three restaurants: UMO, WAI and Faro.
• The Kids Club is included and takes ages 4 to 12. Vibe City is a separate zone for kids and teens only.
• The resort's FAQ lists nine specialty restaurants and four bars, all included, with no reservations needed.
• About a 60-minute drive from Cancun International Airport. Dogs and cats are allowed in some room types.

• The water park is being upgraded, and the resort says some attractions may be temporarily closed. Ask me and I'll check what is open for your dates.
• Golf at the nearby Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya costs extra, and the Rock Spa is for adult guests.
