All-Inclusive & Caribbean

Every all-inclusive looks the same online.

White sand, infinity pool, a couple toasting at sunset. Then you arrive, and the differences are enormous.

One resort has a genuinely good kids' club and a quiet adults-only pool at the far end. One is a party property where the music doesn't stop until two. One has four restaurants that all serve the same buffet with different tablecloths. The photography is identical.

Picking correctly is almost entirely about who is going — and that's a conversation, not a search filter.

Who I'd send where

Couples, no kids anywhere in sight

Sandals, Couples Resorts, Excellence Collection, Le Blanc, Secrets. Adults-only means genuinely adults-only at these, which matters more than people expect.

Families with young children

Beaches, Moon Palace, Hyatt's Inclusive Collection, Playa's family brands, Nickelodeon Punta Cana. Look for a real kids' club and a swim-up room, not a waterslide in a brochure.

Teenagers

The hardest group. You want a resort with genuine activity programming and other teenagers present — an empty teen club is worse than none.

Multigenerational groups

Suites, connecting rooms and enough restaurant variety that nobody feels trapped. Grand Velas, Atlantis, the larger Palace properties.

First-timers who aren't sure

Somewhere with a real beach and a short transfer from the airport. A ninety-minute van ride after a five-hour flight sours a lot of first impressions.

Two things people get wrong

Transfer time. A resort forty minutes from the airport and one two hours away read identically on a booking site. With children, that difference is the whole first day.

What "all-inclusive" excludes. Premium liquor, à la carte restaurants, spa, excursions and sometimes Wi-Fi. I'll tell you what your rate actually covers before you book, not after.
